The Northern Virginia Conservation Trust (NVCT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit land trust dedicated to preserving and enhancing the natural and historic resources of Northern Virginia. Founded as the Fairfax Land Preservation Trust in 1994, NVCT changed its name in 1999 to The Northern Virginia Conservation Trust to better reflect the regional scope of the growing organization.
NVCT has an active Board of Directors and five staff. While the Trust's offices are in Annandale, Virginia, NVCT has a broad base of supporters throughout Northern Virginia. NVCT has formed public/private partnerships with Fairfax and Arlington Counties and the City of Alexandria in order to expand services in those jurisdictions. NVCT has properties or easements in the cities of Alexandria and Fairfax, as well as Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Stafford Counties.
NVCT has been instrumental in the preservation of more than 4,207 acres. The Trust owns one of the largest Great Blue Heron nesting sites in the lower Potomac region. In 2001, NVCT played a key role in the conservation of 384 acres of globally rare Basic Oak Hickory forest in Fairfax County. In 2005, NVCT protected the 41-acre historic Salona Estate in the heart of McLean. The Trust has played a central role in the creation of Friends of Donaldson Run in Arlington and Trust For Crow's Nest in Stafford County.
