Privacy Policy
Privacy Notice:
Updated May 10, 2023
We at the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust (NVCT) have a privacy policy to protect our supporters' personal information. The policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and how you can control your personal information. NVCT gathers broad website usage data to improve our services and communicate with supporters. When processing donations or event registrations, we may ask for personal information, such as name and address. You can easily opt out of email and mailing lists and edit your personal information by contacting NVCT at info@nvct.org. We may update this policy occasionally and advise you to review it periodically to stay informed about how their information is protected.
Information We Collect
We gather broad information about website use, including the number of unique visitors, the frequency they visit, and the programs and services preferred. We look at the data in summary form, rather than on an individual basis. We gather this information so we can learn how many people visit the site, which pages are the most and least viewed, and identify which websites are referring visitors to our sites. The data helps us determine the extent to which our supporters use certain parts of our website. Thus, we use this information to help us better meet the needs of our supporters.
We accumulate lists for communications and marketing purposes to NVCT supporters only. You may ask us to remove you from this list by (1) email: info@nvct.org, (2) phone: (703) 354-5093, or (3) write to us at 4022-A Hummer Rd, Annandale, V.A. 22003.
You may be required to provide personal information, including your name, email address, home address, or telephone number. Should you request particular services, you may be asked for additional information, such as your billing address, credit card number, and expiration date. For example, we may ask for information so that we can process your donation, sign a petition, or register you for one of our events. We store this information to provide service for your support. This information may also be used to evaluate and improve the services and programs we offer our supporters.
There will also be opportunities for you to provide us with additional information regarding your preferences and interests. This information, however, is not required and is completely optional on your part.
Control of Personal Information:

Cookies
Cookies are small pieces of text stored on your computer’s hard drive by a web server. NVCT uses session cookies to identify your computer during a particular surfing session, for example, when you are visiting our home page. We do not store personal or sensitive information in cookies. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or to deliver viruses to your computer. Most web browsers provide you the ability to accept or decline cookies, as well as to be warned each time a cookie is sent.
IP Addresses
NVCT collects and analyzes traffic on our website by keeping track of the IP addresses of visitors. IP addresses are unique numeric identifiers that are assigned to each computer browser accessing the Internet. An IP address, by itself, cannot identify you personally. However, when combined with other information provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP), your IP address can be used to identify the computer originating a message.
Third-Party Links
This website contains links to other sites. Please be aware that the NVCT is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this website.
Data Security
We take every precaution to protect our users’ information. When users submit sensitive information via the website, their information is protected both online and offline. When our donation form asks users to enter sensitive information (such as credit card numbers), that information is encrypted and protected with the best encryption software in the industry. Our payment processors, Stripe and PayPal, handle all payment processing for NVCT’s donor and retail transactions and ensure payment processing is secure. Read more about how Stripe and PayPal handle security. While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon next to the URL in browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to un-locked, or open, when you are just ‘surfing’. While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do everything in our power to protect user information offline. All of our users’ information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices and the offices of our service providers. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job are granted access to personally identifiable information. All employees are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices.
Changes to our Privacy Policy
NVCT may occasionally update this Privacy Policy. When NVCT makes changes to this Policy, you will see the word “updated” and the effective date beneath the Privacy Policy title. NVCT encourages you to periodically review this Policy to be informed of how we are protecting your information.
